Leaves, Lessons and Love

Leaves...Lessons....Love

Brown, the number 6, the letter and sound of Uu, and a Bible Story on being thankful, anchored our learning this week. Finding words that related to 4s and 5s that begin with U was challenging......so we stuck with the traditional umbrella, up, underground animals, and umpire....and added the less traditional UNDERPANTS- which seemed to be a hit! And for lack of finding better songs we sang-( and Yes, please practice this at home....)

Who let the U's out?
"U," "U," "U," "U," U".....
Who let the U's out?
(make the short "u" sound like in "umpire" or the sound of an annoyed teenaged girl!)

And the old standard: Ugly Underwear Song!
(tune: if you are happy and you know it)

Oh, Im glad I don't have ugly underwear.
I'm glad I dont have ugly underwear!
It would make me switch and twitch,
And maybe even itch,
Oh I'm glad I don't have ugly underwear.

(I could not get the b-r-o-w-n song to load, but here are the words, it is to the tune of B-i-n-g-0

BROWN
There is a color we all know
Can you guess what it is?
B R O W N
B R O W N
B R O W N
That's how you spell brown
Teddy bears and squirrels are brown.
Autumn leaves are too
Chocolate candy's always brown
Chocolate cake is always brown
Chocolate milk is always brown
I like brown, don't you?

For the Children who arrive between 8:15 and 8:30, there are age appropriate activities to select.
Hunter fell in love with Boggle.

Bree used the Unifix cubes to make descending, constructed numbers.

Adeline made impressions in playdough.

Eden used pattern pieces to make a bracelet.

Sarah is "Writing the Room," looking for words to copy.

Charlotte chose to practice writing numbers.

Some of our Brown and Uu activities

Rayna and Bree painting a brown bear and stamping the word      b-r-o-w-n.

Eden, Adeline (on two different days) and Crew build U's in the block area.

Having fun in our centers...

Lincoln and Allie enjoy the home living area.

Dressing up is always a hit.

Crew's eyes lit up when I showed him this new addition to our imagination area.

We are making good memories and good friends.

Charlotte and Eliza show off their fall lacing projects.

We discussed and sorted leaves.  (Big and small, by colors, by shapes...)

Miss Andrea helped the "Preppers" make a beautiful leaf print collage.

And then ......the Underpants!

Along with the coordination and exercise, remember that every activity in the "Minds in Motion" room is tied to a specific brain development. Some relate to near/far focusing, some to aiding in being able to sit and listen, many strengthen perception. Each one helps the brain to make connections that will aide in learning. (the benefits are listed at each station, some day walk through and take a look)

Have a wonderful fall break!
