Read around America with Dr. Seuss and the letter Y!

Read around America with Dr. Seuss and the letter Y!

We began each day of our week with a special reader who read us a favorite story and told us about the importance of reading!

On Monday we Mr. Dennis, Campbell's grandad read a favorite book.  Campbell's Dad had been scheduled but was at the hospital welcoming "Baby Boy Turnage number Three", Hollis ~into the world! Congratulations, Rachael and Lincoln!

On Tuesday, Miss Laura, Sarah's mom read to the class~

On Friday, Mr. Mike, Crew's dad, shared one of his favorite books~

Our Dr. Seuss activities included…..
On Wednesday we wore our favorite hat~kudos to Crew's grandma who created his Cat in the Hat, hat!

After coloring the hat, the Preppers drew the faces of the Cat in the Hat~

On Thursday we wore silly socks…so off with the shoes, of course!

and listened to "Fox in Socks"

The class put socks on a fox and picked out rhyming words to paste to his back~

Designing their own socks~

On Friday it was "A Wocket in my Pocket" a great Seuss book on rhyming words (a great pre and early reading skill)
Preppers came with 2 to 20+ pockets!

Our imaginary creations were given imaginary identities!
(a made up word rhyming with "pocket.")

Some of our "Y" show and tells…..
                                             Dylan's Yoda

Do besties just think alike? Charlotte and Hunter brought Yoyos~

Allie's Yellow duck, actually she said it was her mom's~

Owen's Sleepy Dwarf who is Yawning!

 Elsie's Yellow balloon~

                                Channing's Yellow minion

Adeline's Yedi, a character from the Lego Movie

Bree shared two, Yarn and a Yawn!

                                     Making Y's with our bodies~

Working in small groups~
We completed a Language Exprerience Activity (LEA) in which each child talked about an experience and I recorded their words. The sentence is practiced, then cut apart and put back together. It was exciting to see the progress and understanding of these Preppers~

And every day we have our Minds in Motion time, our Bible story (Jesus is amazing: as a boy he taught in the Temple) and always, always PLAY!!

Lincoln wanted to spend some time on a project for his mom.

A big thanks  to Miss Angie, Dylan's mom, who is volunteering once a week to check on and encourage letter and word progress.

Have a Blessed Week-end and see you next Wednesday
~Miss Paula~
